About the college

Grant in aid college is a premier institute in Chhattisgarh state. It is managed by the Chhattisgarh Kalyan Samiti, a registered body founded in 1961. Initially the college was affiliated to Sagar University, Sagar (MP). Later on it was affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur till 2015. At present the institution is affiliated to Hemchand Yadav University Durg (CG). The College was autonomous till 1989. The college was accredited with grade B++ by NAAC in the first cycle in 2004 and Grade B (CGPA 2.87) in the second cycle The college was accredited in 2018 in third cycle by NAAC securing B Grade with (CGPA 2.31) .The institution has been recognized by UGC as “College with potential for excellence” in 2010 and has received grant of 1.5 crore in first phase in two subsequent steps. Grant of Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned by RUSA in 2016-17.

Historical Background

The College was established in the year 1963 The foundation stone was laid on 23rd July 1963 by then central steel minister Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy who later on became the president of India. It was started with the aim of providing higher education to the employees of ‘Bhilai Steel Plant’. Students enrolled at that time were mostly employees of BSP who were in need of educational degree for their promotion. The college served as a major resource center to provide manpower to Bhilai Steel Plant.

Logo of the college depicts “ Vidya Mritsnute ” phrase which means knowledge leads to salvation/ immortality. Book in the center of logo depicts “ Vedas ” which are knowledge texts, enlightening the path of mankind. The rising sun signifies “ Tamso Maa Jyotirgamay ” which means raising / movement from darkness to light. Prosperity of Chhattisgarh well known as “Dhan ka Katora”  is depicted by “ Dhaan ki baali ”.

Curriculum

The college offers under graduation, post-graduation, Doctoral and Diploma courses. It has five disciplines viz, Arts, Science, Commerce, Education and Journalism. The College houses study centers of IGNOU and Sundar Lal Sharma open University for B.Ed course. A three year degree course BJMC affiliated to Khushabhau Thakrey PatraKarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur is functional since 2006. The college has twenty two departments, Six Research centers with 2819 regular students, The college offers degrees in seventeen post graduate courses, twenty six under graduate courses and six PG diploma courses, one Diploma course and six Doctoral programmes.

The College ensures decentralized and participatory form of governance in providing quality education. Thirty five committees are functional in the college, besides these the campus has separate administrative block, separate IQAC office, Examination block, central and departmental libraries, a health Centre, Wi-Fi campus, ATM, Gymnasium, Language lab, playground, laboratories, Auditorium, Canteen, residential quarters for faculty members and non-teaching staff, out-station girl students are offered accommodation in hostel.

The college is looking forward to come up as an institute to provide conductive environment for preparing competent, value added and patriotic students of integrity of par excellence to meet global standards for societal development.
